"Must-haves for Spring & Summer"

As I get older & into another season of life, my tastes are changing... some of my likes & dislikes are different - more simple.  Maybe some of you can relate.  This Spring & Summer I'm opting for casual comfort.  I want to be comfy, not restricted.  I want to feel relaxed, yet I want it to be tasteful.  I've been on the hunt for most things cotton - breathable is better, especially in the heat.  As far as pants, shorts & dresses go, there's a perfect length... not too short & not too long... just right... And  who doesn't want comfy underwear? How bout those bras that dig into you... that's a hard pass.  Get a bra that fits you good & not cut off your circulation.  Same with underwear... make sure it covers you & doesn't show big seams through your clothes.  If you have lines at the end of the day where your socks, underwear or bra sits, you need to size up and/or drink more water.  If you have bulges around your bra that you can visibly see & feel through your tops, you need to upsize your tops.  Another important rule is; whether you have a large bosom or 6-pack abs or not... nobody wants to see them - as proud as you are of them, its more tasteful to leave them covered.  Another tidbit;  No one over 40 should ever wear a crop top or daisy duke shorts.... nope.  Low cut blouses or see-through shirts make other people uncomfortable, so they should make you think twice about your wardrobe as well.  You can still dress beautifully, with flowy baby doll tops with baggy denim; boho blouses & cotton khaki's; sundresses, etc.  And if you don't want to look like you're wearing a tent dress, add a belt or a short jean jacket to the mix.  There's a lot of options out there.  Footwear is another thing.  Everyone should own at least 1 comfy pair of sandals, and one other one for dress (comfy as well).  Keep it simple - baggy jumpers are in too.  Keep your jewellery & hair simple too.  Natural make-up colors are trending right now.  Save your vibrant colors & clunky jewellery for Fall.  As far as color, soft greens are really in this year in clothing & patio decor.

The patio is another place you can show off your casual style & be comfortable.  Have a patio layout that makes sense.  Have sitting areas for eating & for lounging, with perhaps a firetable or outdoor bbq & such.  Throw lots of greenery in the mix & splashes of your favorite color.  Make sure your patio furniture are comfortable though, or you'll never sit on it.  Also make sure you have some wind protection or privacy screen if needed.  Plant some trees or shrubs to add to the mix.  And last but not least, grow a garden that you can admire from your patio.  Raised garden beds are amazing!  Fill your beds with vegetables, leafy greens, herbs, flowers... There's nothing better than walking out to your garden for most of your supper fixings.  And tonnes of health benefits to boot! Nothing better than fresh garden produce that has not been sprayed with chemicals.  Grow flowers for polinators, to attract bees & butterflies.  If you have young children, make sure you have a safe, designated place for them to play as well, where you can see them from or on your patio.

Currently my yard is a sea of yellow... I'd like to harvest the dandelions & make teas & tinctures, but my husband wants to spray them suckers & get rid of them... we'll see who wins haha.

I hope you get to enjoy your Spring & Summer in tasteful comfort wherever you go & whatever you do.  It doesn't have to cost a lot either.  Do some thrifting, dollar store shopping or re-purposing.  And don't be afraid to sit on your patio & enjoy the fruits of your labor now & then, add a yummy beverage & get some Vitamin D.  God Bless...Cheers!

What the Bible says about...

Worry...

Worry sucks the life out of us.  In Matthew 6:25-27 Jesus tells us not to worry.

"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear.  Is not life more important than food and the body more important than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them.  Are you not more valuable than they? Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?"

Jesus also says further down in the chapter that, "your Heavenly Father knows that you need these things, but seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.  Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself.  Each day has enough trouble of its own."

Well I feel like a child who has just been told what is what. Jesus lays it out pretty plain for us to understand, and yet we still worry.   Let's instead hold onto this truth that he speaks, and put it into action!

Peonies in bloom

Discover the beauty and symbolism behind peonies, the flower that inspires my blog's name. Learn about their history, care, and how they can bring joy to your life.  More to come on that topic.

It's a new year now... do you ever start the year with finding your "word"? Something that stands out & has special meaning to you for where you're at right now?  I do this, and put it on a letter board so I see it every day... I also create a vision board & plaster it with things I love, am passionate about & would like to do or accomplish this year... try it!
