Holiday Nostalgia

Are you triggered for the longing of past Christmases because of certain traditions, music, movies, smells or old photos?  If so, you're not alone.  These feelings can leave us almost whimsical - reflecting on times that were full of so many childhood memories of security & togetherness... a simpler time perhaps.  Maybe you connected with your loved ones while baking cookies, decorating a gingerbread house, crafting, trimming the tree or playing a board game... I know I did.

I think we all had our traditional dishes that we loved at Christmas... Mine was Granny's stuffing & her sour cream pie!  Oh and I almost forgot her Christmas Pudding with brown sugar & rum sauce... yummy ... I can smell the memories cooking...

Flavor for the Holidays

How do you pair your holiday meals?  Do you like to add alot of flavor to your dishes.  Here are some holiday pairings;

Turkey & Cranberry; Roasted Chestnuts & Rosemary; Orange & Cloves; Pears & Blue Cheese. Cinnamon & Brown Sugar.

Christmas Cookies

Doesn't everybody love a Christmas cookie or two during the holidays? They taste so much better during Christmas because some are unique to the holidays & a lot of care & attention went into baking them... forming them... cutting them out... some are rolled, some are iced & sprinkled.  Do you have Christmas traditions formed around baking?

My girls & I, and the grandkids bake Butter Cookies every year before the holidays - we cut them out, & the kids love to help ice & sprinkle them - those are a classic at Christmas.

I have a few more that used to be favorites for my parents, (who have passed), but I still find myself baking them year after year, & giving them away...  Cherry Slices, Pecan Fingers & Shortbread.  What are your favorite cookies for the holidays?

Test your crafting skills

Get out some sprigs of greenery, ribbon, Christmas balls, pinecones, berries... even add some lights... heat up your glue gun & go to town... Make a wreath for a loved one or neighbor... create some Christmas ornaments for the kids or grandkids, or get them involved with the craft as well.  You can make the holidays fun & its even more special when you've made it with your own hands.
